“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”—Anais Nin
I recieved my Masters degree in Applied Behavioral Science from Bastyr University in Seattle Washington in 2001. What I loved most about this program was that it focused on a systemic and holistic approach for counseling. I am also certified in psychodrama, sociometry, and group therapy. Psychodrama is a form of theater arts and therapy(no acting experience necessary) and sociometry is a measure of connection between people including issues around belonging, being chosen, being underchosen, and feelings of isolation or rejection.
Sociometry and psychodrama are helpful methods of exploring how we relate to others and how we experience our place in the world. I believe that relationships from our past define who we think we are while relationships in our present can help us discover who we are becoming. I use action methods to help people come into the present and discover how past experiences have shaped their stories about themselves and others.
Therapy creates an intentional relationship that explores the kind of systems that originated in the family of origin (our first group). I see therapy as a creative endeavor that has the power to throw a wrench into the status quo and rework places in our lives where we get stuck. My goal as a therapist is work with you to create new templates, break through old conditioning, learn to play, face challenges with an abundance of resources, create meaning and a sense of purpose, and find ways to come home to oneself. I chose to be a therapist because I believe that we can make better life for ourselves when we work together and find adventure and spontaneity both inside ourselves as well as in the world around us.
